UK Groups Can Look Forward to Spring 2018 with a Grow Wild Grant

Local community groups with exciting ideas for projects that bring people together through activities that connect their community and celebrate UK native wildflowers and plants have until mid January to apply for funding for projects starting in March.

Supported by funding from the Big Lottery Fund and led by Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, Grow Wild is looking to fund 50 groups in 2018 across the UK.Grants of £2,000 or £4,000 are available for projects that plant and sow native wild flowers, plants and/or trees that are native to the UK (not introduced from somewhere else).Projects must engage one or more of these groups:Young people aged 12-18 years.

 Students and young people aged 18-25 years.
 People living in urban areas.
 People experiencing hardship and reduced access to services.
 Adults that are less engaged with their community and environmental activities.

Projects should:
 Stand out from the crowd - think something creative, or even better something that has not been done before.
 Focus on UK native wildflowers, plants and/or fungi, highlighting the importance of these species for the environment, and for quality of life.
 Will encourage large scale community involvement, ideally in the hundreds.
 Will deliver the project in a space or location that is accessible to the general public.
 Begin delivery in March 2018 and be finished by October 2018.

The funding can be used to cover costs specifically related to the Grow Wild project and can be used for materials, plants and seeds, and any volunteer costs. The Grow Wild Team likes to develop a close relationship with groups that receive funding. In addition to the funding, the team offers training and support in promoting the funded projects.

Applications will be accepted from voluntary, community and youth groups, charities, constituted not-for-profit groups, parish, town and community councils, secondary schools, health authorities, health boards and prisons.

The deadline for applications is 15 January 2018 (midday), and successful groups will be notified by 27 February 2018.
