At some point, things might go wrong. We believe that knowing what to do and how to deal with it, is what counts... that and knowing where to go for help.

Crises come in many forms, and they can greatly impact your group or organisation. For example, this could be:

  • a safeguarding issue
  • an IT/ cyber-security issue
  • a breach of confidential information
  • staff discipline
  • redundancy
  • having to close a project e.g. due to funding issues
  • loss of a high profile member of the team (senior volunteer, staff member or trustee)
  • inappropriate statement/comment by e.g. trustee, staff member, ambassador
  • misrepresentation in the media

We can provide you and your group or organisation with the tools and support you need to work through any crisis. We guide you through investigation processes and help you to move forward having learned positive lessons and with built resilience in your team. By discussing and exploring issues in a safe space and in confidence, our impartial and independent advice can enable you to make robust decisions.

Be prepared

When crisis events happen, they usually do so at speed and allow little time to think. The key is to be ready to act as quickly as possible. Being prepared includes having the right policies and procedures in place, so they are there when you need them. You can also have a better sense of what crises might occur and mitigate them by maintaining a risk register and putting risk action plan in place.

A risk register is created by identifying what the risks might be to your group, organisation or project, thinking about how likely they are to occur, and what the severity of damage would be if it happens. This is used as a starting point for developing your risk action plan in order to prevent and mitigate the risk events from ever happening in the first place. The scale of this depends very much on the size of your group or organisation.

How we can help

These help you self-assess where your group or organisation is in terms of functioning the way it should. You can find out more about our Organisational Health Check service in our Services section.
