George* had recently moved from Kirkwall to a rural location to stay with his daughter as his failing health meant he could no longer live alone.

George was feeling very isolated and was finding it difficult to settle in his daughters house. He could no longer drive and was missing his friends in Kirkwall. His daughter was very good at taking him for appointments but often found this difficult as she worked full time.

The Community Link Practitioner helped George apply for Attendance Allowance and as he struggled to walk any distance which made it challenging for him to get to places safely, a Blue Badge.

After the successful Attendance Allowance application George joined Dial a bus and is now able to visit his friends in Kirkwall by himself. The Community Link Practitioner often sees him in cafes having a good yarn! With a Blue Badge, his daughter can now get him much closer to the places he needs to go to like appointments or shopping. It makes it much safer and easier for him to get out and about.
