In 2023/25 a group of volunteers aged 15-18 organised and ran a variety of activities including cards, dominoes and boccia on a Tuesday.

Volunteering at Hamnavoe was a great experience and it helped to improve my communication and problem solving skills immensely. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing stories from the residents and seeing their faces light up as they reminisced. I would highly recommend it to anyone who would like to put their spare time to good use within the community.

The attendance of these pupils are invaluable, the delight and enjoyment their visits provide for our residents is exceptional. They would make fantastic carers with their approach.
Of the young volunteers, 2 have found employment in care at Hamnavoe House and another works at Smiddybrae House. The others used the experience to form an essential part of their personal statement to apply to study medicine.
