We have launched a new website to support the work of the organisation. The website sits at the centre of our plans to revamp our communication and connect with our third sector members - Orkney’s charities, community groups and voluntary organisations as well as the wider community. Visitors to the new site will be able to learn about the support and services that Voluntaryy Action Orkney (VAO) offers and make use of new and improved features. These include a news library, events calendar, list of open funds and a section with employment opportunities.
Gerry O’Brien, Chair at Voluntary Action Orkney said:
The new website was developed as people need to be able to access information easily, quickly and at any time. It plays an important role in not only informing groups and organisations about how VAO can help them, but also in sharing up to date information with, and about the third sector. We hope that visitors to our new website will find it simple to navigate and benefit from the new features we have added.
The site is also home to the Orkney Community Directory, a searchable database containing the details of groups, organisations and community services in Orkney. This was a key area for development and now the site is live, our attention has turned to the information it displays. Our aim is to make the directory as comprehensive as possible. To this end we are asking all groups, organisations and community services to check whether they are listed and if the information displayed is correct so that they can either provide their details or update them. Information about how to do this can be found on the Orkney Community Directory page on the new website.
Marking the change in approach and debuting as part of the website launch is also a new logo for VAO. It can also be seen on our social media channels and in our refined and redesigned monthly newsletters.
Morven Brooks, Chief Executive at Voluntary Action Orkney said:
Developing the new website and our branding was very much our first step. We are evaluating the effectiveness of our existing communication and looking at new methods to bring in. At the same time, we are also reviewing our membership offering. Both these areas of work are linked, and we are looking for potential communication opportunities to extend to our members. Over the coming months we will be sharing more information about our plans for our membership.
