Voluntary Action Orkney (VAO) has been awarded funding from Orkney Islands Council (OIC) to deliver the Multiply programme to charities and community groups across Orkney. Committee members, staff and volunteers will now be able to access free training and mentoring support to help them confidently manage their group or organisation’s money. The sessions will be tailored to suit their needs and cover topics from understanding accounts and financial reporting to planning for the future.

Orkney Business Consultants Limited has been brought in by Voluntary Action Orkney to work with groups and organisations on a one to one basis. They will provide financial reviews and deliver workshops and training sessions in person or online. The trainer will also be on hand afterwards to answer any questions that may arise while any new processes and procedures are put in place.

In addition to one to one training and mentoring, there will also be quarterly online drop-in events. At these sessions committee members will be able to talk to the trainer, find out more about the support available and learn from others taking part.

Morven Brooks, Chief Executive at Voluntary Action Orkney said:

It can be a challenge for groups and organisations to understand their financial position and confidently plan for the future. Through this training and mentoring programme, we will help volunteer committee members to develop their skills, put processes in place that will save them time and make decisions with complete certainty.

Davie Campbell, Orkney Business Consultants Ltd said:

I am looking forward to seeing what areas groups and organisations are looking for help with. Once the committee signs up to take part, we will create a plan for the training together. There is no set structure or topic list, the approach will be entirely focused on what they want to cover. This approach will allow groups and organisations to make the most of the opportunity”
